Teams will be challenged to build and showcase creative and unique payment experiences by leveraging Payments Canada provided APIs and other open-source technologies. Participants can choose to innovate for any of the following use cases or select one of their choice:
P2B (Person to Business Payments)
Canadians make payments to businesses on a regular basis. These include one-time and recurring payments -- such as car financing, mortgage, and utility bills -- that are broadly supported under Payments Canada Pre-Authorized Debit (PAD) Rule H1 and Bill Payments Rule H6. How can P2B payments be improved to address visibility, control and other aspects of the Canadian customer experience?
B2B (Business to Business Payments)
Businesses invest resources on procurement and sales, especially around payment approval, confirmation and reconciliation activities. This adversely impacts time-to-market, supply chain efficiency and cash management for both buyer and seller. How can real-time, data-rich payments solve for these and other B2B payment challenges?
B2P (Business to Person Payments)
Businesses and Governments need to pay individuals for various reasons -- such as rebates, rewards/loyalty, buybacks, tax refunds, and social transfer payments. How can B2P payments become frictionless and more convenient for all parties involved?
WHAT IS A HACKATHON?
The term ‘hackathon’ combines ‘hack’ (a solution reached through innovation) and ‘marathon’ (an event of defined length). The idea is to build a product starting from scratch, and finish with a working prototype. The element of friendly competition enables diverse groups to collaborate in order to develop potential solutions to defined problems.
